AIZAWL: The lone Rajya Sabha member from Mizoram, K Vanlalvena, demanded Saturday President’s rule in Manipur and criticised the Centre for continued violence in the state.
Vanlalvena told TOI that the central government should remove the BJP government led by N Biren Singh in Manipur so central forces can stop the ethnic violence by placing the “extremely biased” Manipur police under their command.
Bringing long lasting peace would be impossible without a separate administration for the Meitei people and the hill tribes, he said. Vanlalvena suggested creating a buffer zone between Imphal valley and the hill areas with central forces ensuring peace between the warring communities.
The MP, belonging to Mizo National Front, a constituent of the BJP-led NDA, had earlier submitted a memorandum to PM Narendra Modi, asking him to constitute a joint parliamentary team to study the events in Manipur.
