NEW DELHI: An on-duty constable was crushed to death under a tractor by the sand mafia in Karnataka‘s Kalaburagi, on Thursday.
The incident took place when a constable of Nelogi police station was trying to stop a tractor transporting illegally mined sand near Narayanpur in Jewargi taluk.
The tractor driver allegedly ran over the police constable. A case has been registered, reported news agency ANI quoting police.
Meanwhile, state minister Priyank Kharge said that an investigation has been ordered into the incident
“I have once again given strict orders to the police department to immediately take legal action against illegal sand mining,” he said.
“It is very shocking. We need to take serious action against those behind it,” said Karnataka minister Dr MC Sudhakar, adding, “Justice will be served.”
