RAIPUR: Union home minister Amit Shah sounded the poll bugle for the November assembly elections in Chhattisgarh on Thursday, claiming that the countdown has begun for the Bhupesh Baghel government, which he alleged was riddled with corruption.
Addressing a ‘Dhanyawad’ rally at Pt Ravishankar Stadium in Durg, Shah said that the people of Chhattisgarh have made up their minds to dethrone the Congress government. He urged the people to vote out Baghel and bring Prime Minister Narendra Modi to power for a third consecutive term in the 2024 parliamentary polls, as they successfully did in 2019.
Accusing the Congress government of betraying the people, Shah highlighted their unfulfilled promises. He mentioned that Congress had pledged to ban liquor in the state but has instead initiated home delivery. Additionally, he noted that Congress failed to provide ten lakh jobs and implement loan waivers for self-help groups, resulting in 22,000 women losing their jobs in the ready-to-eat meal sector. Shah further revealed various corruption charges against the Congress government, including an Rs 2000 crore liquor scam, an Rs 500 crore coal transport scam, an Rs 5000 crore Garib Annaj Yojana scam, an Rs 1300 crore Gothan scam, a money-for-job scam under PSC, unemployment allowance fraud, and an Rs 700 crore DMF corruption case, which has been admitted by the Congress state president. Shah criticized the government for its failure on all fronts.
Shah asked the people if they want to re-elect this corrupt government and urged them to bless Prime Minister Narendra Modi once again, just as they did in 2019 by sending 11 BJP MPs to the Lok Sabha.
Before the rally, Shah visited the residence of Usha Barle, a noted Pandwani Singer and Padma Shri awardee, as part of the BJP’s campaign to meet prominent citizens. Shah spent approximately 20 minutes with Barle, accompanied by former Chief Minister Raman Singh, BJP state in-charge Om Mathur, and MP Vijay Baghel.
Taking aim at the previous government at the Centre, Shah stated that the Manmohan-Sonia government had engaged in corruption amounting to Rs 12 lakh crore over ten years. In contrast, Shah emphasized that nobody can accuse the Modi-led government of corruption even after nine years in power.
