Bengaluru: Three months after being convicted in a defamation case by a Gujarat court, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been named as an accused in another case, filed by a Karnataka BJP leader.
Along with Rahul, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, chief minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy and KPCC chief D K Shivakumar are also arraigned as accused in the case, which pertains to an advertisement released by Congress alleging bribery and corruption under the previous BJP government in the state.
Acting on the defamation case filed by BJP state secretary S Keshavaprasad on May 9, a special court for MPs/MLAs has taken cognisance of the offences under IPC sections 499 (defamation) and 500 (punishment for defamation).
Special judge J Preeth on Tuesday posted the matter for July 27.
