DEHRADUN: More than 180 students, including those from the hill districts of Pauri Garhwal and Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand, received an email notification from the National Testing Agency (NTA) at around 1am (IST) Saturday night, asking them to appear in the re-exam of one of the subjects of CUET the next morning. Most of them failed to appear as they were unable to arrange vehicles to the exam centres, around 100km away from home, at such a short notice.
The email, a copy of which is with TOI, stated: “Your examination which was held on 31st May 2023 (shift 2) has been rescheduled for tomorrow. Please download your admit card from the official website: cuet.samarth.ac.in.” One of the students, Ayush Chamoli, a resident of Pauri Garhwal who couldn’t arrange transport to the Dehradun exam centre, around 160km from home, said the BSc (mathematics) exam which was held on May 31 was rescheduled for Sunday due to “some issue with the first one”.
Ayush added: “I came to know about the email from a friend at 6am on Sunday. The reporting time to the centre was 11.15am. The first bus from the village departs at 7am and reaches Dehradun by 2pm. I missed the crucial paper.”
Another student said, “There was hardly any window between receiving the notification and reaching the centre. Unlike the plains, travelling in the hills is not easy. Many of us missed our exam as we all saw the email in the morning of the exam day.” After missing the paper, worried students wrote to the NTA and sought help. “We have apprised the NTA. Hopefully, we will be provided a solution soon,” Ayush said on Monday. In response, the NTA said that these aspirants had already completed their exam in May, but were given another chance as some of them claimed that instead of the mathematics paper, initially another paper got uploaded on their screen.
While the NTA said the candidates’ admit cards were issued “less than 24 hours before the exam”, a senior official said that “it won’t impact the results as they had already appeared for the test earlier”. “Though the candidates were asked to reappear, it was done as a precautionary measure. Officials looked into the matter and it was found that all of these aspirants finally answered the correct paper,” said a senior NTA official. Agreeing that the admit cards for the Sunday test were issued the night before, the official added: “However, there was no change in the location…”
