NEW DELHI: An unruly mob torched Union minister of state for external affairs Rajkumar Ranjan Singh‘s residence in Imphal’s Kongba area on Thursday night, news agency ANI reported.
The minister who was in Kerala at the time of the incident termed the act inhuman. He appealed for peace in the state.
“It is very sad to see what is happening in my home state. I will still continue to appeal for peace. Those indulging in this kind of violence are absolutely inhuman,” said Rajkumar Ranjan Singh.
According to the minister, the miscreants were carrying petrol bombs with them.
“Thankfully, nobody got injured last night at my Imphal home. Damage has been done to the ground floor and first floor,” he further said.
Manipur is witnessing violence for some time now. On Thursday too, the capital city of Imphal turned into a virtual war zone with several injured in the incidents.
Three houses were torched in the city while a RAF personnel and civilians were injured during a scuffle between security forces and locals at New Chekon area, prompting security forces to lob tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.
