GUWAHATI: A mob torched the official residence of Manipur’s lone woman minister Nemcha Kipgen of BJP in Imphal’s Lamphel on Wednesday, three weeks after vandals ransacked the private residence of her party colleague and PWD minister Govindas Konthoujam in Ningthoukhong town of Bishnupur district.
Neither Kipgen nor any family member was at home when the arsonists struck around 6.30pm, also setting ablaze three abandoned government quarters nearby. Manipur Police and RAF personnel fired tear gas to disperse the mob of arsonists. By the time the flames were doused, a large portion of Kipgen’s house and household items were destroyed. Amit Shah called CM N Biren Singh to take stock of the situation.
