NEW DELHI: BJP president JP Nadda on Tuesday made hard-hitting attack on governments of the opposition ruled states in West Bengal, Bihar, Rajasthan and Punjab accusing them of taking away the quota fixed for the OBC communities and distributing it to the Muslim communities. Citing the report of the OBC commission, Nadda also hit out to Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and questioned his demand for the caste census saying, “Those demanding caste census have intruded in the OBC quota and have taken away their quota to appease the Muslim community.”
Nadda cited the example of West Bengal accusing the Mamata Banerjee government of giving 91 percent of the OBC quota to Muslim sub-castes, which, he alleged was also an effort to “legalise” the stay of illegal migrants from Bangla Desh including Rohingyas.
The national OBC commission report has made some startling revelations about how the governments in the four states have deprived the OBC castes of their constitutional rights and distributing it amongst the Muslim communities,” Nadda told reporters and added that these parties claim to be champions of the rights of the OBC community but their act shows their dichotomy.
Saying that these governments had conspired and taken away the constitutional rights of the OBC castes, Nadda said that in Bengal, the reservation of OBC quota has been misused as a gift for Muslim appeasement. “In Bengal, the benefit of 91.5 percent reservation was given to Muslim OBCs, while in reality the backward class people entitled to reservation are not getting any benefit from it,” the BJP president said.
He further said that a total of 179 castes are registered in the list of OBCs in Bengal of which 118 castes of the Muslim community have been included. “Reservation share of backward classes is being given to the people converted from Hindu to Muslim by conversion, Bangladeshi infiltrators and Rohingyas as Revadi,” Nadda said.
The BJP president said that Before 2011, there were 108 castes in OBC in West Bengal of these, 53 were Muslims and 55 were Hindus. “After 2011, the state government included 71 new castes in the OBC list. Of these, 65 are Muslims and six are Hindus, while 70.5 per cent of the state’s population is Hindu and 27 per cent Muslim,” the BJP president said.
He said the National Commission for Backward Classes has told that flaws have also been found in the reservation system in Bihar, Rajasthan and Punjab. “OBC certificate is not being given to non creamy layer in Bihar. The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar are advocating caste census but in their own state they are stifling the rights of OBCs,” he added.
Nadda said the condition is bad in Punjab as well. The Aam Aadmi Party describes itself as a well-wisher of the poor and backward, but only 12 percent reservation is being given to OBCs in Punjab, while there is a provision of 25 percent reservation for OBCs. Means 13 percent OBC reservation is not being given at all.
He said there is a Congress government in Rajasthan. Here seven districts are declared tribal areas. Their reservation is not being given to other backward classes. These people are continuously doing injustice to the OBC community.
