
With India recording 1,134 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, the active cases increased to 7,026, according to the official website of the Ministry of Health.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday called for enhancing lab surveillance, testing of all severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) cases and ramping up genome sequencing, amidst the rising number of Covid-19 cases in India, PTI reported. He also stressed on the need to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour and maintain respiratory hygiene, according to the report.
The Prime Minister made the announcement at a high-level meeting conducted to review the situation and public health preparedness amidst the rising number of Covid-19 cases in India.

He advised everyone to take necessary precautions against the coronavirus and maintenance of vigil while chairing the meet, as per the report.
Modi also apprised on influenza situation, particularly with respect to higher number of cases of H1N1 and H3N2, recorded in the country in the last few months.
The Covid-19 death toll climbed to 5,30,813 with five deaths reported in the past 24 hours. The deaths were reported from Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, and Maharashtra while one fatality was reconciled by Kerala, the data updated by the Union Health Ministry showed.
Meanwhile, the Kerala government has sounded alert to all districts, owing to a slight increase in the number of Covid-19 cases, as the state reported 172 cases on Tuesday. Health Minister Veena George said that Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam districts have more cases. ”
“There are a total of 1,026 active cases of COVID-19 and 111 people are under treatment in hospitals. All districts have been alerted,” the minister said.
