JAMMU: What cops in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district initially believed was a blind case of murder, turned out patricide. Three men, including the victim’s son and his two aides, were arrested in this connection. Investigations revealed that the prime accused not only killed his father and disposed of the body, but also concocted a story about him being missing, to escape from the clutches of law.
“On March 30 this year, Dalip Singh, a resident of Tote-Bhomag in Reasi, approached police with a written complaint claiming that his brother Paramjeet Singh was missing since March 27. A missing report was lodged at Reasi PS and further investigations were launched to trace the missing man,” Reasi SSP Amit Gupta said.
“During the probe, police rounded up a few suspects and it was found that Paramjeet Singh had been murdered by his son and some other accomplices,” the SSP said, adding: “A case was registered under relevant sections of law and different police teams were formed to trace the accused.”
Cops subsequently arrested Paramjeet’s son Vikas Thakur and his aides Sushil Chander and Vipan Kumar, all residents of Reasi. During interrogation, the three disclosed that they, along with Sushil’s brother Seeta Ram, had killed Paramjeet on March 27 and buried his body near Serla Bhaga area, said the SSP.
A police team along with forensic experts reached the burial spot and, in the presence of an executive magistrate, recovered the body in a decomposed condition, said the SSP. “After legal formalities, the body was shifted to Reasi hospital from where it was sent to GMC Jammu for post-mortem,” he said.
The SSP said that further investigation was underway to ascertain the motive behind the crime, and more arrests couldn’t be ruled out.
