SRINAGAR: Union home minister Amit Shah on Saturday laid in Srinagar the foundation of “Balidan Stambh (Martyr’s Memorial)” to honour the sacrifices of security forces.
The pillar will come at Pratap Park near Lal Chowk, the commercial hub of Srinagar. Shah was accompanied by J&K lieutenant-governor Manoj Sinha.
Earlier in the day, the home minister visited Baltal to take stock of preparations for the two-month Amarnath Yatra from July 1.
Wrapping up his two-day J&K visit that started with a Jammu rally on Friday, Shah distributed appointment letters to the next of kin of eight J&K cops who lost their lives in the line of duty. This event was held at the Police Golf Course — which overlooks Srinagar’s Dal Lake — just before Shah flew back to Delhi.
“The martyrdom of numerous Jawans of the @JmuKmrPolice who laid down their lives battling terrorists and securing innocent fellow citizens is a testament to what Kashmir and its people stand for,” Shah tweeted.
