UTTARKASHI/DEHRADUN: An agonising 10 days after an under-construction tunnel collapsed in Silkyara, the first visuals of the 41 workers trapped inside emerged on Tuesday, casting light on the challenging conditions they have endured for almost 250 hours.
Captured through an endoscopic camera manoeuvred through a newly drilled six-inch pipeline, the videos and images provide snapshots of the resilience and courage of each of those men battling fatigue, claustrophobia and sickness.
However, khichdi packed in bottles for the workers — it would have been their first wholesome meal — couldn’t be sent Monday night as rubble lodged inside the pipe blocked the way. The “lifeline” was cleaned Tuesday and efforts were on to send hot meals, including sabji, chapatis and rice, to the men for dinner when reports last came in.
