Pithoragarh’s Naini Saini airport, at an aerial distance of 50 km from the China border, can now be open for commercial flight operations. The DGCA has given an aerodrome licence to the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority – it currently manages the airport – that will connect the remote, hilly area of the state to rest of India.
The Uttarakhand cabinet had earlier approved handing over of the strategically-placed airport, which was built in 1991, to the IAF.
