NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation in the 102nd edition of his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on the third Sunday of this month unlike the usual practice of doing so on the last Sunday. This is probably the first time PM Modi deviated from the norm since he started his radio programme Mann Ki Baat on October 3, 2014.
The PM said he addressed the nation in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme a week earlier because he will be in the United States next week.
“Usually ‘Mann Ki Baat’ is broadcast on the last Sunday of every month, but this time it is happening a week earlier. As you all know, I will be in America next week and the schedule there is going to be very busy, so I thought of seeking blessings of the people through ‘Mann Ki Baat’ before I leave for the US,” the PM said in his address.
He will embark on his first state visit to the US next week, even as this will be Modi’s sixth overall trip to the country since taking over as PM in 2014. The state visit to Washington DC is on June 22 when he will be welcomed by President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill. Prime Minister Modi is also scheduled to address a joint session of the US Congress followed by a historic state dinner.
He is arriving in New York on June 20 and the next say, on June 21, he will lead the 9th International Yoga Day celebrations at the United Nations headquarters.
During his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ as well, PM Modi exhorted the citizens to make yoga part of their daily routine. He said during his US visit, he will get an opportunity to participate in the International Yoga Day programme at the UN headquarters in New York. “I appeal to all of you to adopt yoga in your life and make it part of daily routine,” the prime minister said.
‘Mann Ki Baat’ has become a key pillar of the government’s citizen-outreach programme addressing multiple social groups such as women, youth and farmers and has spurred community action. Apart from 22 Indian languages and 29 dialects, ‘Mann Ki Baat’ is broadcast in 11 foreign languages including French, Chinese, Indonesian, Tibetan, Burmese, Baluchi, Arabic, Pashtu, Persian, Dari and Swahili.
