LUCKNOW: Six people from one family, including five children, died when their hut caught fire in the Urdaha village under Ramkola police station in Uttar Pradesh‘s Kushinagar district.
The incident took place late on Wednesday night when Sangita, along with her five children, went to sleep in the house without properly dousing the fire in the ‘chulha’, and possibly the fire came in contact with inflammable substance and later spread quickly while the members were asleep, said the police.
The deceased identified as Sangeeta (38) her children Ankit (10), Laxmina (09), Rita (03) Geeta (02) and Babu (01) were charred to death in the incident.
Taking cognizance of the incident, chief minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the kin of the deceased.
Seeing huge flames and smoke billowing out the locals informed the police.
Later, the police and fire brigade team reached the spot and extinguished the fire and also took out all the bodies.
Superintendent of police, Kushinagar, Dhawal Jaiswal said, the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
District magistrate, Kushinagar, Ramesh Ranjan reached the spot and ordered an inquiry into the cause of the incident.
